"Sabako, in the village, lived apart from someone she knew on the mountain."
It is said the name Sabako (Makerel Lake) was changed from the original Sabako ("Left Wave Child" the above woman's name), written with different Kanji characters.
Sabako Yu is the oldest hot spring in Iizaka Onsen.
In Genroku Year 2(1689), Basho visited and bathed at the famous Iizaka Onsen.
It was popular as Japan's oldest wooden structure, and in 1993 it was renewed as a bath that would reproduce the feeling of the Meiji Era, with the scent of cypress and granite bathing areas.
In addition, renovation in 1995 won a prize at the Tohoku architecture RAC contest, which has made it an even more celebrated tourist spot.
