For three years, owner Tamane Genji researched gardens all over Japan, and in 1983 he opened Jorakuen.
The garden was built by the owner's little brother, Tamane Tokushiro, who received a first rate evaluation by the Cultural Property Heritage Council.
Tamane Tokushiro from Fukushima Prefecture was a master garden designer, and worked energetically on the preservation of gardening techniques as a representative of the Cultural Property Council who supported him.
He worked on gardens in Kyoto for many years, especially at Kinkaguji, an important trust. His skillful hands mastered the technique of trimming pines to look like "sukashi (lace)" work that both Japanese and foreigners admire. People interested in the technique of this cultural heritage come here from all over the country to study and learn.
When you are on the Fruit Line to pick fruit or visiting nearby Iizaka or Tsuchiyu Hot Springs, certainly make it a point to come to this garden.
Usually people tend to forget this famous Tohoku garden's four seasons, but please don't miss it.
